Bromsgrove Family Home

The brief here was to create the perfect ‘forever home’ for Sally & Derek, a couple who had bought their house a few years before but left it unchanged. The brief was to update the kitchen, three bathrooms and redecorate throughout with high quality fixtures and fittings.

We asked the couple to provide us with a wish list of everything they wanted from their home, with the aim to provide as much as possible within budget.

There were two main priorities;

1) The kitchen was too small for the house, with the tumble dryer living in the less-than-ideal spare bedroom, so we agreed that a small kitchen extension was necessary.

2) Sally wanted a beautiful bathroom. An escape. It also needed to be practical to use and the wish list came in really useful here.

The style of the house was also discussed. After showing them around another of our projects and seeing how they already lived, we instinctively knew what elements they would like. We were able to offer a selection of interior choices based on a cottage style with a range of soft pastels through the house.

We established, after asking the right questions, that the third bathroom was surplus to requirement as the water was only ever run to clean it! After some consideration, we all agreed that the third bathroom would make a great laundry and storage space. We retained a walled-off WC area for the convenience of visitors.

The main benefit of being able to move the washing machine and tumble drier out of the kitchen altogether was being able to have a bit more fun with the kitchen design. We were able to fit a much-desired pantry unit and fit a run of units in the style of a French dresser, giving Sally somewhere to display her colourful treasury of trinkets.

In Sally’s bathroom, we reorganised the layout completely, creating a focal point of the freestanding bath with a chandelier over. To suit her homely, eclectic style, we introduced different textures and tones of one key colour into the room and created lots to look at. Bespoke panelling lines most walls; pretty patterned Fired Earth tiles cover the floor and a made-to-order vanity unit from top British manufacturer, The Imperial Bathroom Company provides another focal point.
