Edgbaston Town House
Built on the prestigious Calthorpe Estate, this elegant Grade 2 listed Georgian property was built around 1850 with extensive extensions made during the late Victorian period.
It was chosen by our clients Alistair, Lilly and their twins Jack & Connor who were born just as the project was due to start to be their ‘forever home’. We were chosen to undertake the task of making it perfect for them.
Our brief was to completely restore and renovate the house to suit a modern, growing family. This included external landscaping and lighting, a complete slate roof replacement as well as countless internal alterations - a loft conversion, stunning wine cellar, introducing several new bathrooms to service each of the bedrooms, new heating and electrical systems, replacement windows, restoring original features to their full glory and upgrading the detached coach house to become a nanny’s apartment.
This significant project involved a very full complement of building professionals, design team, tradespeople and craftsmen including a stonemason, stained glass artist and cabinet makers.
Attention to detail was paramount on this project – matching designs of coving and joinery to provide repairs and exclusive hand-painted ‘de Gournay’ wallpaper adorns several walls. There are so many beautiful elements to this home illustrated most easily by the photographs, but one particular success is the stairs to the newly constructed loft conversion.
The space for these was taken from part of the main bathroom, designed and crafted closely on the original Georgian staircase, helping the loft conversion feel like a genuine part of the original home. Quirky secret panelling provides privacy from and access to the guest wing. It shows a personal touch as well as perfect hiding places and adventure for little boys as they play.
